The Paragon Products company has been active since October 2003 as an independent legal entity, and benefits both from its AVEBE background and from an experienced, forward-thinking management team. Paragon Products was created from a management buy-out of the Paragon Biopolymers Group of AVEBE by the 2 managers of the Paragon Group in October 2003. Wim Pater is the majority shareholder and owner of Paragon Products. While working within Avebe in 1991, he started with the development of granulates based on starch as the raw material for the production of bioplastics. A complete (extrusion) production line was constructed on one of the sites of AVEBE in Veendam, the Netherlands. The company’s activities were primarily directed towards the petfood market (granulates for dog chews) and the packaging market (granulates for biodegradable foils). Its extensive research and marketing programme resulted in a broad field of experience and knowledge related both to (application) technology as well as to products. Paragon Products has taken this specialist experience many stages further by ‘forward integrating’ – in other words, by focusing much more on final products instead of only selling granulates. This is especially valuable for their petfood activities. They now concentrate on increasing their share of the petfood market, and no longer produce granulates for the packaging industry.
